PTO Committee Descriptions
About Us:
Monthly meetings are open to all Edgar Road parents and caregivers and are held in the school library at 6:30 pm with free babysitting provided. The organization is made up of 5 officers who include: President, Co-Vice Presidents, Secretary and Treasurer. In addition, the PTO includes numerous committees. The committees are categorized as events, fundraisers, philanthropic and school support.

To complement student learning and foster parent involvement that enriches and supports education.
Here is an alphabetical listing of all the great committees and events at Edgar Road:
Labels for Education – The Labels for Education Committee is a fundraising program that generates money and points good towards a variety of educational resources. With the Labels for Education program, our school earns points towards the purchase of educational resources.
Buzz Book – A phone book of ERS students listed both alphabetically and by classroom. It also contains the extensions of each teacher and a complete listing of the PTO Officers and Committee Chair Members. One student is selected to have their Buzz Book artwork appear as the cover.
Day at the Ballpark – In mid-May, the PTO offers ERS families the opportunity to attend a Cardinals baseball game at a reduced rate of approximately $15 a ticket. This game coincides with the ERS Music Makers performance at the beginning of the game. Information is sent home via backpack mail. Order form and monies are turned in to the office.
Dinner and a Movie – This is a free event that is held once during the school year. It is for ERS students and their families to enjoy a family movie in the school gym. The PTO sells pizza and soda at the event.
Electronic Communications – The PTO has gone paperless in order to save money and promote environmental sustainability. This committee is charged with maintaining the email list and electronically distributing PTO information to families and updating the materials found on the PTO website.
Enrichment – The committee is in charge with setting up a host of low cost, after school classes and programs for ERS students. The classes are held during the month of February and March. The PTO utilizes both parent volunteers and businesses to conduct the variety of classes such as karate, cake decorating, chess and much more.
Foundation Liaison – This is a school support committee that is responsible for attending all of the PTO’s 8 monthly meetings and serving as a liaison between the Edgar Road PTO and the Webster Groves School District Development Director. This committee assures that Edgar Road is represented to the School District.
Giving Tree – This is a school community program to promote the spirit of the holidays with giving back to those who are less fortunate. A holiday tree is placed in the school hallway for students to hang new gloves and hats and scarves on the branches to be given to the shelter. The holiday tree is also donated to a local church or organization after the event.
Landscaping – This committee is charged with the beautifying the Edgar Road campus with annuals, perennials and mulch.
Original Works – This is a fundraising effort that gives parents the opportunity to see their children’s artwork turned into something fun and functional. Items include t-shirts, mouse pads, coffee cups and more!
Penny Drive Fundraising – This fundraising committee was formed in 2013. It is responsible for fundraising efforts that directly benefit our various school needs.
Room Parent Coordinator – This committee is in charge of making sure each classroom has sufficient number of Room Parent volunteers to manage and put on fun and educational classroom parties held at Halloween, Winter time (December) and Valentine’s Day. In addition, this committee works with the Teacher Appreciation Committee in a collaborative effort to thank our teacher’s and faculty during teacher appreciation. They also work with the Trivia and Auction Night Committee to coordinate the classroom baskets that are collected through the donations of parents and room parents.
Scholastic Book Fair – The Book Fair is held for four days during fall and spring conference week. It is an opportunity to encourage your children’s love for books and reading while earning money and books for the school.
Septemberfest – This is a school community event for Edgar Road families to gather and enjoy an food trucks together. Food is available for purchase.
Talent Show – This is a school event held in December for Edgar Road students, their families and the faculty to gather and enjoy watching and listening to ERS students perform a variety of talents in the school gym.
Teacher Appreciation/Conference Dinners – This committee organizes meals for the teachers during conference week held in the fall. They enlist help from parent volunteers to provide drinks, meals and dessert. For Teacher Appreciation Week, which occurs in the month of May, they are charged with purchasing small tokens of affection for the principal and specials teachers.
Trivia Night and Auction – This is a huge fundraising evening for the school. Proceeds from the event go towards our effort to upgrade the school playgrounds. It’s also an opportunity for ERS parents and their friends to join together for a fun evening of trivia, silent and live auctions. Throughout the school year, the committee collects auction items and devises the night’s theme and trivia questions. The main auction items are classroom baskets donated by each classroom and donations from faculty like Principal for the Day.
Trunk or Treat – This is a school community event for Edgar Road families to gather and enjoy trick or treating together in a safe environment. It is held on a Friday evening before Halloween. ERS parents provide candy for the event and/or volunteer to decorate their car “trunks” with spooky flair. From their car trunks they hand out candy in the ERS park lot. Afterwards kids parade for everyone in their costumes and judges award prizes for best costumes.
